His research primarily focuses on the conservation of local pig genetic resources, breeding of new varieties, and development of new breeding technologies. By conducting germplasm innovation through crossbreeding of local and exotic pig breeds, he has successfully developed a high-quality, efficient new variety—the Yunong Black Pig. He has identified local pig genetic resources, including the Yuxi Black Pig and Xiangcheng Pig. Leveraging modern molecular breeding technologies, he has developed precise, efficient, and low-cost breeding chips. In collaboration with large-scale farming enterprises such as Muyuan Group and Yifa Animal Husbandry, he has long been engaged in research on precise and efficient breeding technology for breeding pigs under intelligent and healthy breeding systems.
He has presided over over 20 national and provincial-level projects, including 3 key R&D projects under the Ministry of Science and Technology’s 13th and 14th Five-Year Plans, 2 major projects from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, and 2 National Natural Science Foundation of China projects. He has won 2 provincial science and technology progress awards and 1 Ministry of Agriculture Fisheries Harvest Award. As the first or corresponding author, he has published 57 papers (including 18 SCI papers) and authored 10 monographs. He holds 18 national invention patents, 7 computer software copyrights, and has formulated 1 provincial local standard.
