Dr. Shi graduated from Kansas State University and is currently the Director of the Center for Vaccine Evaluation and Antimicrobial Alternatives at the Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine, and the Director of the U.S.-China Animal Health Center and Professor of Vaccine Immunology at Kansas State University. In 2022, he was named "Dr. Wayne & Hilda Appleton Endowed Professor" by Kansas State University.
He has served as an advisor to the Director of the Animal Production and Health Division of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. His main research interests are swine infectious disease vaccine adjuvants and novel diagnostic analysis tools. His research focuses on Classical Swine Fever, African Swine Fever, Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome and other emerging porcine viral infectious diseases, and he has published more than 70 SCI papers and been cited more than 1,700 times.
